Postdoctoral Position Available (Prof. Noori’s Research Group at NIGLAS)
Prof. Noori’s Research Group at the NIGLAS is recruiting one postdoctoral researcher to conduct advanced research on lake trophic state assessment. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research at the interface of climate science, limnology, biogeochemistry, and environmental modeling, with strong potential for high-impact publications and international collaboration. A core innovation of the project lies in developing a novel, scalable, and ready-to-use trophic state index for global lakes, supported by the NSFC-funded project “An Open-Access App for Monitoring Trophic State Index in Global Lakes”.
Prof. Roohollah Noori recently joined NIGLAS in March 2026 after prior affiliation with the University of Tehran, and currently supervises PhD students in water science and sustainability. His research record includes publications in leading journals such as PNAS, Nature Communications, Environmental Science & Technology, Water Research, and Water Resources Research.
Research Focus
The appointed postdoctoral researcher will investigate how climate- and human-driven changes, such as warming, altered hydrology, extreme events, and land-use shifts affect nutrient dynamics, primary productivity, and eutrophication processes in lakes at regional to global scales. The main duty of the candidate is to develop a novel, scalable, and ready-to-use trophic state index for global lakes, that is applicable across diverse climatic, ecological, anthropogenic, and geographic contexts.
The research may involve:
Analysis of large observational and remote-sensing datasets
Statistical and/or process-based modeling
Integration of climate projections with lake ecosystem responses
Contributions to synthesis studies on global freshwater ecosystems
The successful candidate will also collaborate closely with other researchers in my group members and prepare at least one proposal for submission to provincial or national funding calls (e.g., NSFC RFIS-I) to advance interdisciplinary aquatic sustainability research.
Candidate Profile
We are seeking a motivated researcher who holds (or is about to complete) a PhD in a relevant discipline, such as:
Environmental science or engineering
Limnology, hydrology, or aquatic ecology
Climate science
Earth system or data-driven environmental sciences
Desired skills include:
Strong quantitative and analytical background
Experience with data analysis, modeling, or hydro-/eco-informatics
Programming skills (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB) are advantageous
A strong publication record or clear potential for high-quality publications
Preferably, prior experience as a PI in NSFC projects
